Serving Mesa, Arizona

Senior placement in Mesa

Mesa is the largest of the seven communities we serve — over half a million people — with a hospital system, a rehab network, and a senior housing landscape big enough to match.

Mesa is home to an estimated 513,656 people, 17.5% of them 65 or older — a smaller share than some of its neighbours, but on a base this large that still adds up to a great many families navigating hospital discharges and care decisions. Downtown Mesa, Sloan Park, and the city’s size and reach mean the care landscape here is broader and more varied than almost anywhere else we work.

A large, layered hospital system

Hospitals and rehab hospitals most Mesa placements begin from.
FacilityKnown for
Banner Desert Medical Center A tertiary referral centre — neurosciences and neurosurgery, orthopedics, cardiovascular care, comprehensive cancer care, and robotic surgery.
Banner Baywood Medical Center 342 beds, open since 1984. A Primary Stroke Center; orthopedics recognised among the Top 100 Orthopedic Programs in the U.S.; neurology, rehabilitation, palliative, and wound care.
Banner Heart Hospital Opened November 2000; one of the largest free-standing heart hospitals in the country.
HonorHealth Four Peaks Medical Center 178 beds, Level 3 Trauma Services, Accredited Primary Stroke Center. Renamed from Mountain Vista Medical Center effective 1 October 2025 after HonorHealth’s acquisition — if you’ve seen the old name elsewhere, this is the same hospital.

For inpatient rehab, Banner Rehabilitation Hospital East (56 beds, all private rooms, a Banner/Select Medical joint venture) treats amputation, brain injury, medically complex conditions, neurologic disease, orthopedic trauma, spinal cord injury, and stroke; Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of East Valley adds another 52 beds. Skilled nursing options across the city include Advanced Healthcare of Mesa, Allegiant Healthcare of Mesa, Alta Mesa Health and Rehabilitation, Mesa Christian Health and Rehabilitation Center, and Santé of Mesa.

Senior living, from gated 55+ to licensed adult care homes

Mesa has some of the Valley’s most established 55-and-over communities. Leisure World, established in 1973, actually sits on a county island surrounded by but not officially part of Mesa — its HOA acts as a de facto local government, and Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office polices it. It has 2,664 homes, 16 pickleball courts, 10 tennis courts, two golf courses, and more than 150 clubs. Sunland Village, about 2,685 homes built between 1974 and 1984, has roughly 4,000 year-round and seasonal residents. Dreamland Villa offers two pools, pickleball, bocce, and two community halls.

Mesa’s seasonal population

Mesa also carries a large seasonal-resident and snowbird population across its RV and manufactured-home resort communities. If your parent splits the year between two states, plan the Arizona side of a care decision well before the season changes — waiting until they’re already back in town costs weeks.

For families choosing a smaller, more attentive setting over a large campus, licensed adult care homes are available throughout Mesa’s neighbourhoods.

Aster Aging and Mesa’s senior centres

Aster Aging, a nonprofit, operates both of Mesa’s senior centres — Aster Senior Center at Mesa Downtown (247 N. Macdonald) and Aster Senior Center at Red Mountain (7550 E. Adobe St) — along with home care, Meals on Wheels, outreach and social services, a Benefits Enrollment Center, and housing resources. It’s a genuinely comprehensive local network, and worth connecting with regardless of where a placement ultimately lands.

ALTCS in Mesa

Given Mesa’s size, we place ALTCS and low-income families here as often as anywhere we work. See our ALTCS and Medicaid guide, and if a discharge date from Banner Desert, Baywood, Four Peaks, or either rehab hospital is moving up faster than expected, our urgent placement service is built for that. Discharge planners can find what we need on our page for healthcare professionals.

Is Leisure World actually part of Mesa?

No — it’s a county island surrounded by Mesa but not officially inside it, with its own HOA governance and Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office policing.

Is HonorHealth Four Peaks the same hospital as Mountain Vista?

Yes. Mountain Vista Medical Center was renamed HonorHealth Four Peaks Medical Center effective 1 October 2025 after HonorHealth acquired the facility. Many sites online still use the old name.
